Consider making a gift on Giving Tuesday

Falling just after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving, and it continues to grow every year. In 2017, 2.5 million gifts resulted in $300 million dollars donated on Giving Tuesday.

GivingTuesdayHI (Giving Tuesday Hawaii) is a local effort, this November 27, to encourage everyone in Hawaii to give and support our local nonprofit organizations that help Hawaii’s most vulnerable, support the arts and education, protect the environment and more.

This year’s awareness event, led by the Hawaii Community Foundation with partners including Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaii News Now, Chef Russell Siu, Hawaii Gives Back Magazine and Joseph Esser Photography, will celebrate Giving Tuesday to bring awareness to the power of giving in our Island communities and to encourage everyone to give what they can.

And because we believe that every act of generosity is a heroic act, there are several ways that you can be a “hero for Hawaii” this Giving Tuesday.

Give to a nonprofit of your choice and post about it on social media with the hashtag #GivingTuesdayHI.

Stop by the intersection of Bishop and King St. to drop your business card into a Giving Tuesday Hawaii drawing. Winners receive a grant of $500 to a nonprofit organization of their choosing, provided by Bank of Hawaii and the Hawaii Community Foundation.

What Is Giving Tuesday?

Created by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back—#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces, collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly, to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement.

What can you do?

We encourage you to find a worthwhile charity, something that supports your giving goals, and make a contribution of time, money or goods and services to support their mission in the community. Many of our generous partners have giving channels of their own.

Mahalo to all our great giving partners
